1.Carmelita, none of us had met her
Till the day we went on tour
;Cause she said ‘I’m looking for adventure
Even if the money’s not sure
Even if the money’s not sure
Carmelita Carmelita
Plays the slide trombone
Carmelita come and see her
Playing the double saxophone
2.Carmelita lit up all the stages
When she wiggled, giggled like a child
When she played and shook her blonde dreadlocks
Drove the audiences wild
3. Carmelita hit the bars in Europe
On her shoulder slung her horn
Belgium, Holland, Denmark and The Faroes
Partied every night till dawn
4. Carmelita came and saw and conquered
Carmelita went back home
Now she’s gigging round the South Island
Sends us texts on her cell-phone

Shadrak, Mishak, Abednego
Now Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon
He built a huge idol of gold
He also built a fiery furnace
And the people they all got told
‘When you hear the accordion, the saxophone and mandolin
If you don’t bow down
We’re gonna throw you in!”
FIRST, SECOND, THIRD CHORUS
Shadrak, Mishak, Mishak, Abednego
2.There were three Israelites in that land
Who were men of high distinction
They said “We won’t bow down
And worship no idol
Even if it means extinction
They were Shadrak, Mishak and Abednego
They said ‘Sorry, king, it’s not a go!
3.Now the king got so mad
He commanded the furnace to be stoked seven times higher
He said “Tie them up and throw them in!”
And they were cast into the fire
But when the king looked inside
He got a real surprise
‘Cause those three guys were still walking round inside
4.And when Shadrak and his boys walked out
Not a hair on their heads was singed
And the king said “The god of the Israelites
Is stronger than anything
‘Cause they wouldn’t bow down
So he saved their skin
Let’s party with the saxophone and mandolin!”
LAST CHORUS
Shadrak, Mishak, Mishak, Abednego
Came out from the fire
Don’t you know
(And all the people said)

The Jews Brothers Band Auckland, New Zealand
Twenty years ago, inspired by a klezmer tune playing on an Auckland café’s stereo, Hershal Herscher picked up his accordion
and started playing the music his grandfather Harry had brought to New York from the Ukraine.
The rhythm he was pumping out acted like a magnet on three musician friends who were in the caf that day. From that nucleus The Jews Brothers Band was born.
